Moddi (Pål Moddi Knutsen)
biography / portrait

My name is Pål Moddi Knutsen. I come from an island called Senja in the far north of Norway. I have borrowed my mother's accordion, stolen a russian display mandolin, and own an ocean blue guitar with two broken frets, with which I make and play music that's always a little larger in my head than what ends up on tape. My first small concert was held in 2004, and since then, things have grown little by little, with by:Larm and the Øya Festival in Oslo as possible peaks of hooray so far.

The music I make lives a life of its own. Sometimes you can find it as a huge band session with noise and loudness, while sometimes it's so small and discreet that you might want to sing along to help it continue. The songs grow a little for every winter that passes by, just like any child would. Whoever you are; thank you for listening!

My first album, Floriography, is to be released in Norway February 2010. It is recorded in Iceland together with producer Valgeir Sigurdsson (Björk, Múm, CocoRosie etc.).
