Valravn
biography / portrait

Valravn gives new life to old Nordic ballads and medieval dancing tunes. The traditional instruments’ deep drones, trance pulses and powerful beats merge with today’s grooves and soundscapes, while Anna Katrin Egilstød gives a voice to ancient myths and legends with passion, nerve and beauty.

In Valravn’s concerts the atmosphere of a medieval market enters the dancing floor in a spiral of poetic wildness and wild poetry.

In Scandinavia there is a very creative new folk with bands like Hedningarna and Garmarna from Sweden, Gåte from Norway and Gjallarhorn from Finland. Valravn represents the Danish answer to this way of interpreting the tradition.

After playing together for two years in the medieval band Virelai with more then 200 concerts, Valravn decided to work with the Nordic roots and released the debut-EP "Krunk" in the month of October. The 4 members come from different backgrounds on the Danish scene: the band Sorten Muld, Irish folk, rock, eastern music and theatre.

Valravn is:

Anna Katrin Egilstrød (Faroe Islands): voice, flutes and percussion

Martin Seeberg (Denmark): viola, flutes, shawm, jew’s harps and hurdy gurdy

Søren Hammerlund (Denmark): mandola and hurdy gurdies

Juan Pino (Switzerland/Ecuador): davul, electronic and acoustic and percussion
