Campsite
biography / portrait

The new sensation from Denmark is called CAMPSITE and they are ready to take over the dancefloor.

CAMPSITE comes out of the next wave of fresh rock bands taking over the world with their debut album ‘Names, Dates and Places.’ Think of newer bands like The Killers, Phoenix and Interpol, but think just as much of bands like New Order, Talking Heads and The Cure.

CAMPSITE takes it one step further with their personal blend of catchy, in-your-face rock ‘n’ roll and strong and atmospheric melodies. The music of CAMPSITE is wound together of contrasts and contradictions. All at once it is just as rough and energetic as it is poetic and dreamy. It is upbeat and still thoughtful, gentle and explosive, light and serious, cool and intense. The contrasts are expressed with a characteristic lead vocal and a mix of insistent, danceable beats and bass lines, intertwining guitars, and smooth keyboard and synth hooks. Occasionally elements can also be spotted from the individual band members’ sources of inspiration, which range from the alternative singer-songwriter scene to synth pop, disco and punk.

The band insists on making music on the philosophy that you don’t have to be introvert or sentimental in order to have a serious and complicated expression. Substance can be found while dancing.

Since CAMPSITE’s debut-EP “All The Time” was released summer 2002, the band has been playing concerts across Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.

CAMPSITE’s latest EP “Confidence/Pastime/Sweet Dream” was well received by Danish radio, promoters, fans and with all basic tracks being recorded live in the studio, the EP had a strong energy and a lively sound. The songs Confidence and Pastime you'll be able to find on the latest Sally Sample 'Rock around the Block', on which Swiss transport made a nice remix of “Confidence”, a three-minute upbeat song with nerve, repeated guitar patterns and melodic hooks. “Pastime” is a massive drive and a cleansing ending.

Fortunately that EP wasn’t enough, and in the spring of 2005 they went into the mailmen studio together with producer Minco Eggersman and recorded their stunning debut, which contains songs covering the various spectres between joy and sadness, fear and confidence, isolation and partying -combined in a seldom heard relaxed manner. The album is packed with hit-potential dance songs such as Parade, Lines Intact, Clean Cut and In Case You Want To Talk It Out, and it ascents from heavy and hypnotic rockers like Pastime and Black Disco to the charmingly cocky Small Escape just to make a worthy finish with the grand and edgy Between Buildings and the sparse and intimate I Collide. All the way through the record’s immediate catchiness is combined with more complicated and even ambiguous layers and undertones. Set your money aside, ‘cause this is a 'must have' for any iPOD or discdrive. This will keep spinning the whole year through!
