Singapore Sling
biography / portrait

Singapore Sling is a darkly psychedelic band from Reykjavik, Iceland. They are inexplicable and elusive but remind one of the drugged out soul power bands like Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Their debut album, "The Curse Of Singapore Sling", came out in Summer 2003. It has gained fans from all over the globe. Their leader is singer-songwriter-guitarist Henrik Björnsson. In addition to Björnsson, the Sling include Håkan Aøalsteinsson on guitar, Einar Kristjansson on guitar, Bibi on bass, Björn Viktorsson on drums and Siggi Shaker on maracas and tambourine.

They did their first tour of America after signing with the Indie label Stinky in late 2002. Then in March 2003, they rocked the house with a show at SXSW and also several packed New York shows (including a sold out show opening for Brian Jonestown Massacre) and several shows on the west coast opening for the Raveonettes. A second Album "Life is Killing My Rock `N´Roll" was released in Sept. 2004.

Since their first release they have played four tours in the United States, several support shows for Brian Jonestown Massacre in the UK and of course many shows in Iceland (Airwaves Festival 2003, 2006 and 2007) and the rest of Scandinavia. Finally in 2005 they made it over to central Europe where they played the Island Festival 2005 in Berlin. This is where Singapore Sling and 8MM met for the very first time.

In the meantime a 3rd record "Taste The Blood Of Singapore Sling" has been released in Iceland. Until now, Singapore has not been exposed to the rest of Europe at all due to their engagement in the USA and their Icelandic isolating tendencies.

8MM Musik picked ten pearls from those 3 records to release an anthology of Singapore Sling in May 2007 to prepare Europe for there live invasion. Singapore Sling are currently working on a new album to be released early 2008, preceded by a new single in November 2007.

Singapore Sling have just returned from a successful first tour of Europe, surprising and delighting crowds in Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Milan, Vienna, Prague, and Munich. They plan to return in September and November for additional live dates.
