Ekdahl Lisa
biography / portrait

The new album from Swedish songstress Lisa Ekdahl, her 9th studio outing in all, will be released in Scandinavia on January 18, also this time in her native Swedish tongue. The title is “Pärlor av glas” (“Pearls Of Glass”) and will be followed by a lengthy Scandinavian kicking off in March. “Pärlor av glas” was recorded in the PUK studio on the Jutland countryside in Denmark and is in several aspects a “chapter two” to her 2004 album “Olyckssyster”, recorded in the same studio with the same producer (Lars Winnerbäck) and roughly the same session musicians.
“That’s a correct observation, but the new album has more light in it, it’s more hopeful” says Ekdahl, who’s 1994 self-titled debut album sold close to 800 000 copies in Scandinavia and meant an immediate pop icon position for the Stockholm based vocalist and composer. She’s later reached an international audience through several jazz and bossanova recordings in English. 2002 saw the release of an Lisa Ekdahl jazz compilation entitled “Heaven, Earth and Beyond”.
