The Storm
biography / portrait

Since the band was founded, The Storm has been one of Denmark’s absolute most renowned and talked about bands in both the media and amongst musicfans. Their debut, ’Where The Storm Meets The Ground’ (2007), has already sold platinum. And while nations abroad are curiously monitoring the band, The Storm is currently touring Denmark with nothing but sold out shows – quite an achievement for a band that has only existed since 2006.

But we are not dealing with hit-craving musicians, who calculated struck gold in the current sound of the mainstream – not at all. Their success can be ascribed to the collaboration between two of Denmark’s most respected musicians and performers - Johan Wohlert og Pernille Rosendahl, who also forms a couple privately. They both have had recognized careers in music as members of progrock-act Mew and former indierockers, Swan Lee, respectively. Still today both these bands are recognized as some of the most interesting bands coming out of Scandinavia, which their achievements testify to.

During her time as a member of Swan, Lee Pernille Rosendahl developed her charismatic voice and electrifying stage presence. Rumors of the captivating Danish rock-diva reached beyond Denmark’s borders fast, which resulted in numerous national awards and internationals tours with - amongst others - British altrockers Suede. Sadly Swan Lee grew apart as a band, and in 2005, right before their predicted break through, the band split up.

At the same time Johan Wohlert and Pernille Rosendahl were getting together as a couple, and with a baby on its way, Johan Wohlert chose to leave Mew in favour of spending more time with his family. This decision was made despite of Mew’s great commercial success, during which the album ’And The Glass Handed Kites’ had received remarkable reviews in all serious magazines and newspapers all over the world.

However, Pernille Rosendahl and Johan Wohlert did not keep a low profile for long. By the end of the summer of 2006, The Storm became a reality – a duo with a preference for heavy drums, power-riffs and a potential reaching far beyond Denmark. Universal was chosen as the record label, and The Storm went to Arizona’s desert to record their debut album with the legendary producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, Guns N’Roses, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, etc.). By the time of it’s release, all Danish media of any significance had already had a front page feature of The Storm, and the album,’Where The Storm Meets The Ground’, has until this day sold more than 30.000 units, which is exceptional by Danish standards.

Besides the huge mainstream interest, the album also impressed the metalscene. Michael Poulsen from fellow countrymen Volbeat called and asked if Pernille Rosendahl would perform on his latest record ’Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac Blood’. She accepted, and a warm friendship between the two bands has evolved from their collaboration. Michael Poulsen of course returned the favor by singing on The Storms upcoming single ’Black Shot Eyes’.

The Storm’s second album ’Black Luck’ is now up for release, and changes has been made. The sound of the new album is even heavier and more uncompromising than their previous record, and this is basically how it is with The Storm these days. Universal has been replaced with their own label in close collaboration with metal-connoisseurs Target Records, and their producer is now the godfather of heaviness Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Rauchy, Hatesphere, Dúné). Quite an experienced set-up and surely one that meets the expectations and visions Pernille Rosendahl and Johan Wohlert have for their band.

Only a year and a half after their debut, The Storm is ready once again to show the world that they not only deserves but also lives up to their reputation as a hard-working, power-charged band, who manages to unite hard distortion with feminine elegance in one powerful expression and further more in a manner only few artists master.
