Niceland
biography / portrait

Introducing the new, up and coming band Niceland. For the last year, this band has been searching tirelessly for their true, unique sound – the sound that defines them. The result is an original pop album anchored in solid melodies and thought provoking lyrics, yet decorated with dusty notes, surprising arrangements, old-school instruments, and other instrumental greetings from the past.

Producer Morten Bue, left the band with no room for compromise or rest until the eclectic sound components fell into place. The debut title, ‘Make No Sound’, comments on this organic process.
“Niceland’s sound is not designed to cater to a certain audience. Contrarily, once the essence of our sound developed, the songs nearly wrote themselves.” – Christian Achton Friis, Lead singer.

And now here it is – the debut album that’s at once indefinable and familiar. To label the music would be to limit it. You need to hear the exciting combination of clear, fresh melodies, intimate dry drumbeats, ringing guitars, bubbling bass and funky piano for yourself. You’ll notice either a simple little song connected to a more complex sound composition, or an intense melody spun together with more fragile harmonies for a strikingly intimate sound experience.

It’s an emotional album, an album you can really listen to. It’s a thoughtful album that you can take your time with. But it’s also an album for any occasion – sounds great when cruising down the motorway, when putting kids down for a nap, or on a first date.

Perhaps ‘Make No Sound’ sounds like if Feist would produce an album with Teitur. Or like a trio project with Beck, Mark Knofler and Michael Stipe. Producer Morten Bue has put his mark on bands like Figurines, Under Byen, Diefenbach and Marie Key Band – all with a tendency towards the more edgy and daring parts of pop. That’s why Niceland is difficult to label, yet so satisfying to hear.
