Hamferđ
biography / portrait

The music of Hamferđ is intended to encompass the sadness, the melancholia and the anger bound to the Faroese soul. The weathered islands, both beautiful and treacherous, are home to a strong people, united in love, yet also tremendous pain and grief. Throughout the centuries, storms, famine, disease and death have been ever present, striking hard on the small Faroese communities. The processes of mourning and consolation have carved themselves deep into the identity of the islanders, and so Hamferđ seeks to communicate this dark essence through their unique style of doom metal.

In early 2010, they entered Sement, a Faroese “band battle”, and claimed first prize, including studio time and festival spots for the summer, one of which earned them a 4-star concert-review from Kerrang. Their demo track “Opiđ hav” reached #1 on the Faroese music charts for 3 weeks.
The summer of 2010, Hamferđ started recording their debut album, released on December 14th, and 2 weeks later, they received a Planet Award for “Best new band of 2010”.
